Joy Poke opened its doors to customers with a ribbon cutting event on Friday, April 5, in Gresham Station, 649 N.W. 12th St.\u00a0The new restaurant is helmed by Justin Hwang, who also founded Joy Teriyaki.<\/p>\n
All of the proceeds during that first day were donated to the Mt. Hood Community College Foundation, which provides scholarships and support for students at the school.<\/p>\n
Poke means \u201cto slice or cut\u201d in Hawaiian and refers to chunks of raw, marinated fish \u2014 usually tuna \u2014 which is then tossed over rice and topped with vegetables and umami-packed sauces.\u00a0At Joy Poke, customers have complete control over the traditional Hawaiian dish, placing their order at the counter and picking from dozens of options.<\/p>\n<\/div>
